A Crime Alert for the residents of Southport from Merseyside Police

Between the 7th March and the 20st March 2019 only one attempted burglary was reported in Knowsley Road. There have been 2 reports of thefts from vehicles in Bold Street and York Road and 1 theft of a vehicle in Devonshire Road.

The crime figures are noticeably down during the above period. There could be many reasons for this, but residents becoming more aware of the importance of Home Security is certainly a key element in helping the Police to keep the area in which we live a safer place to reside.

Protection in an Emergency

A Sefton resident fell and broke her hip. She lived alone and in spite of being in considerable pain was able to contact a friend who was the key holder for her house, to alert her that she required help. Unfortunately she had left her key in the lock on the inside of the door and her friend could not get into her property.

This resulted in the Police and Fire and Rescue Service being called out to gain entry so the Paramedics could attend to the patient .

It is recommended that keys should not be left in the inside lock of an external door so a quick entry can be obtained in an emergency.

A further suggestion would be to inform a trusted friend, neighbour or relative that lives near to someone living on their own of the code, if a key safe has been fitted to a property. The Police would attend a call if there was concern for the safety of the occupant and the neighbour, friend or

relative could then access the keys for the Police to enter the property. In an emergency time can be very important, a quick access to a property to treat the patient can save a life.
