Fire fighters in Southport could have saved petrol after dashing to a fire just forty yards away from their station.
Two units from the Manchester Road Merseyside Fire and Rescue unit responded to a panicked 999 call after a house nearby set alight.
It’s understood a faulty electrical appliance may have caused the start of the fire.
It happened at a property on the corner of Queen’s Road and Manchester Road just after 5pm.
Crews very quickly made the area safe and extinguished the small fire.
Firefighters remained on site until 6pm making the building safe and ventilating smoke from the property.
