Crews battle fire at derelict Russell Road yards

Emergency services are battling a fire that has broken out within disused derelict yards on Russell Road.

Four appliances with multiple crews of firefighters are tacklin g the fire within a disused hanger-style building at the corner of Russell Road and Crowland Street.

A significant cordon is in place around the area, with the surrounding streets filled with smoke, blowing towards Haig Avenue.

Firefighters have donned breathing apparatus and are combatting the fire within the building itself.

OTS reporters witnessed one bystanders assisting firefighters with hosing equipment.

By 21:20 the fire was largely extinguished though the cordon remains in place to pedestrians and traffic.
