Crashes following Birkdale power cut

Cars are colliding and police are being called constantly to smashes across Birkdale following the power cut.

Several crashes have been logged already with some causing severe whiplash and others being treated for minor injuries at the scene.

Traffic lights across the village and Liverpool Road have failed while homes and shops have been left powerless after a mystery surge caused all power to fail.

The outage is only affecting the Birkdale with those in Ainsdale and Southport saying their power remains on.

Police are asking residents to remain calm and motorists to avoid the area until normality is restored.
