Councillors across Southport have been checking up on the ‘sealed vulnerable’ residents of their local areas. Hundreds of local residents who the NHS has been unable to contact have been located and called on.
Councillors John Pugh and Tony Dawson have been out on their bicycles on several days over the past few weeks calling on these ‘hard to reach’ sealed residents in Dukes Ward to check that they are all able to access food and medicines and to enquire whether they require any additional assistance from the local council.
Dukes Ward, which includes west Birkdale and the town centre area of Southport has the largest ‘very elderly’ population in the Borough of Sefton. Residents in other areas of town have also been called upon by some of their own councillors. All the residents called upon, whether in or about at the time of the call, have been provided with a leaflet outlining local service contact details.
Councillor Tony Dawson said:
“Of course, we local councillors continue to deal with more routine matters such as planning issues and potholes and sink holes in our local roads, which continue to develop despite the much-reduced traffic under ‘lockdown’. But the most important priority at this time has to be keeping our most vulnerable residents alive and well. So, we have been pleased to be the ‘front line’ part of this particular exercise.”
