Councillor continues work as Liberal Democrat

27th January 2018

Dukes Ward, Southport, is now represented by two Liberal Democrat councillors for the first time in the ward’s history.

Southport Councillor Tony Dawson has recommenced full activities within the Liberal Democrats. Councillor Dawson’s membership was previously suspended while Party officers looked at an internal matter.

Councillor Dawson was first elected in 2012 as the only non-Conservative ever elected in Sefton’s Dukes Ward. He was re-elected in 2016 with a massively-increased majority.

He said: “Suspension is a process which is implemented while a matter is looked at without any imputation of impropriety. I never stopped working with and for Liberal Democrats during the past few months as well as serving local residents as best I can.”

“To the extent which my health permits, I shall continue to be as active as I can in those same interests. For, Southport and the services received here have possibly never been more under threat.”
