Councillor calls for more benches on Lord Street Southport

Councillor David Barton has called for more public benches to be placed around Lord Street to make the area more welcoming for visitors and residents.

As part of his ongoing campaign to restore the famous thoroughfare to its former glory Councillor Barton has asked the council to look at installing more seating.

He said: “Having spoken to several business owners I feel this would benefit everybody in the area.

“I would particularly like to see more benches at the southern end of Lord Street so people can take a break and appreciate the town or simply have a chat with friends, old and new.

“Unfortunately the council have not been able to add any new benches recently.

“However I have been informed by them that people have left benches in selected spaces as a tribute to loved ones for whom the area held a special place.

“With this in mind it would be in keeping with the aesthetic of the area if the Council could look at funding more benches.”
