Councillor David Barton, a leading campaigner for the restoration and regeneration of Southport Town centre has welcomed imminent restorative works on a central landmark feature along Southport’s beloved Lord Street.
The Dukes Ward representative who first raised this with the Sefton Tourism Department has continued to lobby for the appropriate remedial works as soon as possible which has included an exchange with the Sefton Civic Buildings Department who have now taken forward his request.
“Having originally raised this matter of the Princess Diana Gardens Water Feature back in Summer 2017, I have sought the support of the Sefton Tourism Department who have now assured me that the relevant works are being undertaken to finally rectify this.
The exhibit, whose lettering had become badly tarnished, is quite literally a central piece of Southport’s high street and it is imperative that in memory of the late Princess Diana, whom the Gardens were affectionately named after are therefore maintained in respect of this great Community Champion who did so much good for many people across the world in her Ambassador role.”
