A leading Southport councillor has denounced political commentators for describing Esther McVey’s uncontrollable outburst in a meeting with the Prime Minister over the latest Brexit ‘deal’ proposal as ‘going mental’.
Councillor Tony Dawson, who has spent a lifetime assisting people with Mental Health problems says:
“We should not be surprised at reports that that the awful Ester McVey (above, right) ‘lost it’ with the Prime Minister and tried to bully her over Brexit yesterday. But that is no excuse for people at Number Ten making these widely-reported slurs upon people with Mental Health problems by using the phrase ‘went mental’ in comments to the press about the former Minister’s tantrum.”
“The vast majority of people with mental health issues are quiet and withdrawn – often anxious and depressed – and generally behave quite properly. It is a gross slur upon them to be compared to Ms McVey in this derogatory fashion. There has been a lot of lip service given recently to improving the status of mental health within government and the NHS. This needs both proper actions and proper use of words.”
