Community campaigners have been told the Council won’t implement safety measures to combat speedsters in Crossens.
Confirmation arrived from the council just hours before a serious multiple car crash in the same area.
Firefighters had to cut the roof off one car involved in the multiple vehicle smash on Preston New Road on Tuesday near to the junction with Fairhaven Road.
Although nobody was seriously injured in the accident, community campaigners who want traffic calming measures in the area say this kind of accident only furthers their argument to implement speed restrictions in the roads around the area.
In one instance campaigners have raised serious concerns over speeding drivers on Balmoral Drive, who use the road as a rat run to avoid heavy traffic on Preston New Road.
However, Sefton Council say there haven’t been enough accidents on Balmoral Drive to warrant any further calming measures.
In a letter to Crossens Councillor John Dodd, Sefton Council said “Currently, we are prioritising roads with 7 or more recorded injury collisions in the latest three year period. We have looked at the collision record for Balmoral Drive, Southport from Preston New Road to North Road and there has been 1 recorded injury accident on this road in the latest 3 year period, of which speed was not a contributory factor.
“Therefore this road does not meet the criteria for consideration for additional safety measures such as traffic calming.”
