Council chiefs are considering erecting permanent memorials in the town to remember those who died during the Covid pandemic.

Residents are being asked to suggest suitable locations for the memorials.

The authority is working on plans to create a number of memorials across the borough to remember those who lost their life or were affected by the pandemic.

The council wants to acknowledge the enormous loss and sadness but also the inspiration and togetherness in our communities it created as we all supported each other.

Councillor Trish Hardy, Cabinet Member for Communities and Housing, said: “We know the pandemic had a big impact on our communities and we’re looking to create these spaces for reflection.

“We’ve put a lot of thought into where the memorials could go and we wanted to share our plans with members of the public so they can have their say.

“We’re proposing that the memorial would be a simple layout with a memorial bench in the centre and a circle of trees creating a quiet and peaceful environment.”
