Sefton Council are set to implement a 30mph speed limit on the A565 Formby bypass for 15 weeks during cycle lane refurbishment works.
Sefton Council is currently considering the speed limit, and if agreed will come into force on 14 November.
When implemented the temporary limit will be in place between the Coastal Road entrance to the bypass, past RAF Woodvale, to the Southport Road petrol station.
The move comes after Sefton Council set aside over £1m to refurbish the public pathway and cycle lane along the A565.
Improvements works to the Formby Bypass will be primarily financed by Active Travel funding, formerly earmarked for the now-scrapped ‘North-South’ cycle lane plan that would have run along Preston New Road.
Instead, Sefton Council will now use £934k of that funding to install £1.1m of improvement works to “upgrade cycling facilities”.
The temporary speed limit will only be enforced on the northbound carriage and only while contractors are on site. The standard national speed limit will apply at all other times.
The temporary 30mph speed limit is also expected to be halted during a two-week break over Christmas.
The Council is expected to ratify the decision next week.
