Council cause prickly situation over drug needles

Council cleaners have ignored a rising pile of drug needles and smashed booze bottles in Southport Town Centre.

Despite repeat complaints to local councillors and council bosses by worries business owners nothing is being done about a growing pile of used hypodermic needles and empty alcohol bottles piling up on Hoghton Place, a popular cut though between Post Office Avenue and Hoghton Street.

Shop staff say they are too scared to clean up the needles themselves for fear of getting scratched by them.

One shop owner said he had contacted the council five times over the last month but his concerns had gone ignored
