Health chiefs are watching with bated breath as coronavirus cases continue to double in Sefton.

Figures now show an extra 447 new cases in the region between 18-24 September, up from 222 the week earlier, a rise of 225 diagnosed cases.

There were 162 cases per 100,000 people in the latest week 18 Sep-24 Sep for Sefton. The average area in England had 27.

The surge comes as the first deaths from Covid-19 were recorded at Southport & Ormskirk NHS Trust since 24 July, with two people sadly passing away from the disease.

The deaths bring the total death toll at the Trust to 153.

Southport has been placed under additional restrictions since 22nd September, in measures that were implemented across the whole of Merseyside.
