Conservatives announce Dukes ward by-election candidate

The Conservative Party has selected local campaigner and former NHS nurse Ann Pearmain as the local candidate for the forthcoming Dukes ward by-election on

Thursday, November 2nd.

Ann Pearmain, who lives in Dukes, had been selected unanimously by the local members to stand as the Conservative candidate following the retirement of former Councillor Pat Ball last month due to ill health.

Ann is a qualified Teacher of English as a Foreign Language and has had a career as a paediatrics nurse in the NHS spanning over 20 years – a position she looks to continue as a registered volunteer at Southport and Formby District Hospital.

Speaking to [media outlet], Ann said the Conservatives were the only credible party in Southport following the collapse of the local Liberal Democrats and “out of touch” Bootle Labour Party, who haven’t won a local seat in Southport via the ballot box for a number of years.

Speaking on her selection, Ann said:

“Like many residents in Southport, I have noticed over the past few years how the Town is slowly declining into a state of poor repair, which is ruining the image of our beautiful seaside resort. I have voiced my concerns to the council on a number of occasions, but now I really want to do something and make a difference.”

“Dukes residents pay the most in council tax across the authority and yet Labour continue to disregard their concerns. Just last month they destroyed generations of heritage in our community by not continuing to keep Lord Street’s iconic red tarmac.”

“With this in mind, I find it disgraceful that the Labour run Sefton Council is continuing to use Dukes residents as a cash cow to fund their projects in Bootle, including the recently reported purchase of the £32 million shopping mall. Dukes residents deserve a better deal.”

“I am absolutely delighted to have been selected as the Conservative candidate and I look forward to the opportunity of representing my own community in getting a better deal out of Sefton Council.”

Damien Moore, the Conservative Member of Parliament for Southport complimented Ann on her selection, adding:

“Ann is an outstanding local activist with a real dedication to her community and a fantastic background in helping others. I am thrilled she has been selected; she will be a first-rate councillor in a ward where residents deserve first-rate representation.”

The Dukes ward by-election will be held on Thursday, November 2nd.
