Hear ye this proclamation! You can discover what life in West Lancashire was like 900 years ago when Coronation Park hosts the fabulous Ormskirk Medieval Weekend.

The free two-day extravaganza on Saturday 17 May and Sunday 18 May will take you on an exciting trip back in time to experience the sights, smells, sounds and tastes of medieval England.

West Lancashire Borough Council rangers have organised the fantastic free event where 12th century re-enactment group Historia Normannis will take you on a journey through time. Over the weekend the park in Ormskirk will come alive with fabulous entertainment for people of all ages to enjoy between 10am and 4pm on both days.

The event follows on from the huge success of last year’s first ever Ormskirk Medieval Day when hundreds of people enjoyed a great day out in the park.

Dave Tilleray, Assistant Director Community Services, said: “The Medieval Weekend will be even bigger and better than last year’s Medieval Day with even more attractions for people to enjoy. So make sure you come and enjoy this fantastic event.”

This year the park will once again become a hive of activity with interactive displays, including medieval crafts and archery demonstrations. Members of Historia Normannis will do battle in exciting combat displays which will lead to a tournament later in the day.

Visitors can try on the armour, take a closer look at the weapons and have a go at making their own shield. They can also try their hand at archery and shoot at Historia Normannis members dressed up as Normans.

Everyday life in the 12th century will also be featured with medieval cooking demonstrations and a fashion show to talk about the different styles of dress of the times.

The Medieval Court will dispense 12th-century style justice and people will be put into the stocks as punishment. People can also make their own money at the coin strike.

An added attraction this year will be the chance for people to make their own medieval-style pilgrim’s badge with local artist Angie Thompson.
