A leading campaigner for the restoration and improvement of Southport has led a clean-up of a rubbish strewn area to encourage civic pride in the town.
Cllr David Barton organised the community initiative in the alleyway between Jaeger and Peter Jackson on Lord Street.
Volunteers cleared vegetation, leaf- fall and discarded litter, including plastic cups and cigarette butt ends.
The clean-up came after Jaeger recently completed a full restoration of their Verandah but overall fascia frontage, which included intricate refurbishment of the unique blue tile design structure overhead.
Peter Jackson has also pledged to repaint their abacus heads in the correct black colour when next undertaking maintenance works on their Verandah.
Cllr Barton, who represents Dukes Ward, said: “This initiative demonstrates the need for continuing civic pride efforts but it is important to show appreciation for the work being done by the local community be they local landlords, business owners or other organisations, who have all demonstrated a willingness to maintaining the properties and surrounding areas on our Victorian high street
