An event to commemorate Holocaust Memorial Day will be held at Christ Church, Lord Street on Saturday 29 January.
Holocaust Memorial Day (HMD) marks and remembers the deaths of millions of Jews and other targeted demographics including Roma, Poles, Ukranians at the hands of the Nazis before and during the Second World War, and associated genocide programs that followed. HMD is marked annually in the UK on 27 January with events held on surrounding days.
The Holocaust resulted in the death of six million Jews, around two-thirds of the European Jewish population at the time.
Organised by the HMD Sefton Working Group, the event at Christ Church will start at 1.30pm and is an inter-faith event open to all.
Guest speakers will include the High-Sheriff of Merseyside, Mayor of Sefton Cllr Clare Carragher, Sefton Council CEO Dwayne Johnson and local politicians.
There will be a collection for the International Aid Trust at the end of the service.
