Charity gig’s sound of silence frustrates band members
The sound of silence was almost what anybody heard this afternoon after s charity concert in Southport got off to a poor start.
Bands arrived at the Lord Street bandstand only to find that their Bank Holiday gig in aid of Queenscourt Hospice may have had to be cancelled after contractors forgot to open up an electricity junction for them to plug their amps into.
The responsibility falls on the National Grid who have final say on who can access local power outlets and due to a Bank Holiday mix up, nobody was on hand to open it up for musicians.
Only a frantic search and the kind hearted nature of a local bar saw the event go ahead, albeit running slightly late.
A generator was eventually sourced and supplied and the music went ahead, with hundreds of people enjoying the summer sunshine and upbeat music, all the while donating heavily to Queenscourt Hospice.
