Television cameras were today on Southport toady as election fever hits the resort.
Camera crews from Channel 5 News were at Westminster tea rooms on Lord Street and this afternoon at Silcocks Funland, Friday, April 10, to broadcast an election special as part of a series of programmes running in the lead-up to the election on May 7.
Southport is the first stop on the programme’s tour of the country over the next four weeks.
Channel 5’s news editor Cristina Nicolotti-Squires said: “With one of the tightest election races in memory, we decided we wanted to get out as much as we could to hear what voters think of the politicians and of the campaign.”
The programme is to be presented by Emma Crosby from Channel 5’s in a mobile studio that they are using throughout the tour.
The presenters will be looking at the “national picture” as well as how the election race in London is affecting people at a local level.
They will also be looking at regional factors such as the rise in popularity of UKIP in this year’s election campaign, who have a bigger presence in Southport than other parts of the UK.
There will be two programmes being broadcast live on Channel 5 tonight from Southport. One at 5pm and one at 6.30pm.
