A nurse from Southport and Ormskirk has become a winner of a Cavell Star Award. Paul Jebb, Deputy Director of Nursing at Southport and Ormskirk Hospital NHS Trust, was nominated by colleagues for going above and beyond for his team mates.
Sally Young, Quality Assurance Matron and colleague explains,
“Paul is very passionate about nursing and I’ve learnt a lot from him. He’s a very motivational leader and such a nice bloke, he’ll do anything for anybody. He has been an amazing support to me both professionally and most importantly through my recent ill health. He’s made me laughand listened and supported me to make my own decisions, helping me to regain my self-confidence. He’s a very worthy winner of a Cavell Star Award.”
Nursing charity Cavell Nurses’ Trust launched the Cavell Star Awardsin April in partnership with LloydsPharmacy Clinical Homecare.Nominations are being sought from nursing teams throughout the UK for that special team mate who has shown exceptional care for either their colleagues or their patients and patients’ families. Each Cavell Star Award winner receives a remarkable medal, presentation case and pin badge as well as invites to attend special Care & Cake parties next year, celebrating of the nation’s nursing professionals.
Receiving his Cavell Star Award from his team put a real smile on Paul’s face,
“It was absolutely amazing and quite humbling! For me I’m just doing my thing, being me, supporting my colleagues to enable them to do their jobs well. I’ve always believed that everyone who works in the NHS is here to one thing and that is look after patients, we just all do it from different angles and we need to support each other to do that. So anything that can boost morale like recognising a colleague with a Cavell Star Award, for example is fantastic.”
“Being nominated by colleagues is the most awesome thing as it shows that I am doing the right thing to ensure we care for those who are doing the caring. I will wear my star badge with pride!”
The Cavell Star Awards are in partnership with LloydsPharmacy Clinical Homecare and sponsored by NEXT, UNISON, NHS Improvement, National Garden Scheme, Health Education England, NHS Professionals, Queen Alexandra’s Royal Army Nursing Corps, Alexandra, British Journal of Nursing, The Embassy of Belgium in the UK and Thornbury Nursing Services & Scottish Nursing Guild.
Cavell Nurses’ Trust is the charity that supports UK nurses, midwives and HCAs, both working and retired, when they’re suffering personal or financial hardship often due to illness, disability, older age and domestic abuse.
