CCTV image released after man assaulted on train in Merseyside

Officers investigating an assault on board a Merseyrail service travelling between Hunts Cross and Southport are today releasing a CCTV image in connection.

The assault happened at 8.10pm on 22 June. During the journey, the victim, a man in his seventies, began talking with another man on board the train.

The conversation became heated, with the second man punching the victim a number of times to the head. The victim sustained a number of injuries which required medical treatment.

Officers believe the man shown in this CCTV image may have information which could help them investigate.
