CCTV appeal following assault at Southport takeaway

22nd November 2018

Merseyside police are issuing images of a man and woman who may have information following an assault of a man in a Southport takeaway in September.

At around 3am on Friday, 28 September, the victim, a man in his 50s, was in Concept Food takeaway on Scarisbrick Avenue when he intervened in a verbal altercation between a man and a woman. The man punched the victim three times in the head and the woman hit him with her handbag, resulting in minor injuries.

CCTV and witness enquiries have been ongoing and anyone with information or who recognises the people pictured is asked to come forward.

Detective Inspector Jackie Guinness said: “This was an unprovoked and violent attack on a man simply trying to intervene and calm down a nasty-looking situation. We are determined to find those responsible and put them before the courts.

“Although not the best quality images, we believe you would recognise the man and woman pictured if you know them. I would encourage them or anyone with information to make themselves known at the earliest opportunity.”

Anyone with information is asked to contact the social media desk @MerPolCC, call 101 with reference 18200204990 or @CrimestoppersUK anonymously, on 0800 555 111.
