Police closed off part of Lord Street last night after a car lost control outside the town centre war memorial.
The driver of a white hatchback lost control of their vehicle at the junction of Lord Street and the Monument.
The resulting smash left the car completely overturned and the occupants had to crawl free from the wreck.
It’s not currently known what led up to the incident, which happened around 11pm in heavy rainfall.
Emergency services were called and police closed off the road while paramedics were also brought to the scene.
A number of cast iron bollards which border the monument have been destroyed in the collision.
