Car abandoned after Churchtown lights smash

A car has been abandoned after colliding at speed into a lamppost in Churchtown.

The BMW hatchback smashed into a heritage style lamppost at the Cambridge Road junction.

It’s unclear how the crash occurred but it’s understood the car may have mounted the kerb a number of yards away from the impact site.

A protective barrier between the road and the pavement remains untouched but a no entry bollard further up the road near Tesco Express has been knocked down.

The force of the smash has all but written off the car causing serious damage to the front passenger side of the BMW.
