The people behind the Southport Comedy Festival have come up with a unique and fun way to give people a much-needed boost of cheer over Christmas with their Zoom Comedy Bingo!
Comedian Brendan Riley and his wife Val of Big Comedy UK have been running their live Comedy Bingo nights for over six years.
Since the lockdown in March they created the Zoom version of their highly successful event raising thousands of pounds for charities as well as entertaining corporate clients for staff get-togethers.
The initiative was part of this year’s Sefton Borough Of Culture, which worked fast to ensure people had something to enjoy despite all the Covid-19 restrictions.
Since then they done Zoom Comedy Bingo for all types of clients and events, from big companies, to charity fundraisers to get-togethers of families and friends who have been separated by the Coronavirus rules in place.
Brendan and Val said: “We had thought in September that we had finished with our Zoom events but with the new lockdown measures we know that companies especially those whose staff have been working from home are missing out on human contact.
“One of our favourite events recently was doing a Zoom Comedy Bingo for a 70th birthday party in Wales.
“The Grandma whose birthday it was was in North Wales, and her family had ordered a special birthday cake for her.
“As a surprise, they also ordered the exact same cake for her grandchildren so they could all be on Zoom together, with the grandchildren blowing out her candles for her!
“We are getting lots of enquiries at the moment from families who would love to do Zoom Comedy Bingo in December, and quite a few between Christmas and New Year, because people don’t quite know yet what is going to happen over the next few weeks, while others will still be isolating anyway.”
Zoom Comedy Bingo is fantastic for office Christmas parties or a way of boosting staff morale.
It is also a great way for families to get together over the Christmas holiday.
The show is suitable for all ages and because it is online people can play from all over the world.
Brendan and Val said: “We have had people joining in from Australia, Canada, America, Spain, Holland, Canary Islands and Ireland.
“It is a pandemic so it is a good way to join together in this time of adversity.
“Normally we are at big live events, or doing stand-up comedy gigs all over the UK.
“But like other businesses out there, we have had to change what we do, and the Zoom Comedy Bingo events are proving to be extremely popular.
“Some people want to hold them during evenings while others are keen for them to take place during the day so more children can get involved, as we do these events for people of all ages.”
