Campaigners welcome anti drugs busts across Southport

Anti drug campaigners say they welcome recent police crackdown on dealing in Southport.

Recently police stopped a suspected drug dealer carrying 58 bags of heroin.
23 year old Thomas Cole, appeared by video link from HM Prison Featherstone, Wolverhampton, at Sefton Magistrates Court recently when he pleaded guilty to possession of 10.69g heroin with intent to supply and to possession of cannabis.

The court was told he was stopped by police officers on Derby Road, Southport, on February 16.

Daryl Pollard, prosecuting, said he attempted to run but was detained shortly afterwards. “He was searched and inside his coat he was found
to have 58 individual wraps of heroin, with a street value of up to £580.

“He was also found in pos- session of a small amount of cannabis, valued at £30 to £40.”
Miss Pollard said that sentencing guidlelines state the “starting point” for dealing in class A drugs is four-and-a- half years in prison and the matter should be sent to the crown court.
