A campaign launched in Ainsdale that aims to allow Southport & Ainsdale Amateurs AFC to use the fields at the site for pitches.
At the moment the site of the old high school is planned to be developed into 243 new homes after councillors voted the plans in late last year. The club is aiming to boost the health of the community and says that this should be more important than building new housing.
The site was demolished late last year:
David Stroud, the leader of the campaign posted to the site, “Southport & Ainsdale Amateurs AFC was formed in March 2012. At the beginning of 2024/15 season the club had grown to an impressive nineteen teams. This growth means that our current home at the Ainsdale Sports & Social club only has 3 pitches (11-a-side, 7-a-side, 5-a-side) meaning we have to use other pitches.”
