Call for Action over Marine Bridge Vandalism

7th January 2018
Southport residents seeking an evening stroll to the coast over Christmas and the New Year had to so in semi-darkness.
Not for the first time, mindless vandals have smashed dozens of the light fittings on the Marine Parade Bridge.
Local Councillor Tony Dawson is pressing for this repair to be made as soon as possible but he is more concerned that the authorities should get to the heart of the problem.
“Spending public monies re-fixing these attractive lighting units every few months cannot be the long term answer,” he says.
“The vandals just seem to treat each repair session as a challenge as to how fast they can smash the light fittings once again.

They are an easy target requiring only seconds to smash each one.”
“I have asked the local police and council officers to co-ordinate to see if there is any way to catch those responsible ‘in the act’. I am sure that the vandals have also boasted to their friends about their pathetic actions and would appeal to anyone who might knows who is responsible to let the police know.”
