Bulldozers tear down arson struck deaf school decades after closure

8th March 2020

After years of uncertainty work has finally began to demolish a well known Birkdale eyesore.

The former deaf school in Birkdale has been empty for a decade and has been the target of repeated criminal activity from vandalism to arson.

Now work has finally begun to demolish the main building to make way for a housing development, proposals of which have been in the pipeline for years.

Nearby residents say they are delighted that the works have now begun and hope that this is the first step to putting an end to the eyesore which has plagued them for a decade.
