Fears that residents in Southport are being targeted by a BT scam have been confirmed by the telephone giant.
Recently one unsuspecting resident was called by someone pretending to be from BT who said if they paid £28 to block nuisance calls to their phone, then it would be much better for them.
It was only afterwards that they realised it was a scam.
The unnamed resident said “I was mortified and I rang up my bank but the money had already been taken out of my account. I was lucky that I didn’t have more taken so I’d like to warn others to be on their guard.
“If someone calls pretending to be from your supplier, just politely tell them you will call back, look up the company’s real number and continue the conversation from there.”
