Darcy Iveson-Berkeley has been announced as a prospective parliamentary candidate (PPC) for the Brexit Party in Southport.
Darcy, a lifelong local resident, will contest the constituency in the next General Election, standing against incumbent, Damien Moore.
He said: “Today I am extremely proud to announce that I am the Prospective Parliamentary Candidate for Southport representing the Brexit party.
” As a Sandgrounder, I feel I know exactly what Southport needs and being local means I am passionate about the future of our great town and preserve its Victorian heritage.
“At 19 I never envisaged I would be running for public office, but under the current circumstances I feel compelled to do something, as our proud history of democracy is at risk!
“I have become so disillusioned with the establishment, as Labour, the Conservatives and the Liberal Democrats have neglected local issues and no longer represent the people of Southport. The Brexit Party has given us Brexiteers a ray of hope. We the Brexit party are standing up for democracy and we really are going to change politics for good.
“We here in Southport have a large elderly population that needs extra support and we need to look after our own citizens and I would like to pledge that I would be supporting cutting the foreign aid budget in half.
“As the people of Southport will know our train links aren’t first class and this is why I would be in favour of scrapping HS2 and support upgrading our current rail services in the North.
“As a young person, I am delighted that the Brexit Party has pledged to cut interest on student loans, and we will make sure all public transport has free Wi-fi!
“Finally we will promise to save British Taxpayers £39 Billion by leaving the European Union on WTO terms!”
North West Brexit Party MEP Henrik Overgaard-Nielsen welcomed Darcy’s selection, saying, “It is fantastic to have someone so enthusiastic and youthful in our corner. As a life long resident Darcy knows the area and its problems well and will do all in his power to improve the situation in the town.”
Richard Tice, Brexit Party Chairman said, “ The Brexit Party stands ready to fight a general election with a full slate of candidates in all the UK’s 650 constituencies. We will take on the major parties, which have failed the British people time and time again.
“The vast majority of our candidates are entering politics for the first time and they come from all walks of life, backgrounds, races and religions. Their greatest strength is that they are not professional politicians, but are competent individuals, connected to their local areas and issues they seek to represent.
“They have achieved great things in their professional or personal life, from entrepreneurs, small business owners and economists – to teachers, academics, forklift drivers and bankers. We all share a commitment to deliver Brexit, defend democracy and change politics for good.”
