An inspirational woman from Southport has reached the finals of the 2019 Merseyside Women of the Year Awards.
Brenda Porter, from Ainsdale, is in the final 26 of the prestigious awards, which aim to ‘find and reward the unsung heroines for their achievements in just doing what they do best, changing lives and giving extra meaning to people’s lives’.
Former Tory councillor Brenda Porter, 80, has been described by the awards’ organisers, as ‘a tireless Champion of the Community in Ainsdale’.
Her nomination reads: “Her impact is far-reaching. Brenda has not let much get in her way but her age and gender have meant that she has always had to work harder to prove herself.”
The grandmother of six is the Chairperson of Ainsdale in Bloom, Ainsdale Community Wildlife Trust and of the Friends of Revitalise Sandpipers, a community group whose support enables the Southport centre to provide life-enhancing respite holidays for disabled people and carers.
