A Bootle Golf Club member says more needs to be done to bring the municipal course up to scratch and put it on a par with the council-owned Southport Links Golf Club.
The golfer believes there is ‘no comparison’ when looking at the facilities offered at his club to those at Southport.
Both are run by Sefton Council, and he believes the local authority needs to be spending more money in Bootle to improve the clubhouse, car park and greens.
Sefton Council took ownership of Bootle Golf Club in 2013 and they say a number of improve- ments have been carried out since then, including a drainage system to fix flooding issues, improve- ments to the car park and ongoing maintenance work.
Southport Links Golf Club was opened in 1912 as a nine hole course before it was extended to 18 holes during the 1930s.
Both are open for golfers who want to‘pay and play’ seven days a week.
The disgruntled golfer said: “Southport has a lovely maintained course with hardwood benches on every tee, a lovely clubhouse with food, drinks and snooker.
“Bootle has a boarded up clubhouse with an old shipping container as a temporary solution with a till and a fridge.”
He also claims there are better incentives and dis- counts at Southport.
