B&M look to abandon Lord Street store for shopping park

11th January 2023

The B&M store on Lord Street could close its doors in less than two years if plans for them to move are approved.

Sefton Council say they’re concerned that Lord Street would suffer if they agree to plans for the store to move to Central 12.

B&M bosses want to set up a larger store next to the ASDA supermarket on the shopping complex.

However the council want to make sure any move is made with a deal that the Lord Street store remains open until the end of 2025.

Similar deals have been struck with Sainsbury’s, who are also planning to eventually close their Lord Street supermarket after launching their mega Meols Cop development.

A Council document says “ Advice on this proposal was sought from the Council’s retained retail consultants, Nexus.”

Following receipt of additional information from the applicant, including details of the intended end-user – B&M who currently operate from Number 95 Lord Street – Nexus have said they don’t believe the plans would harm the town centre.
