Blaze rips through former Blundell Pub building

A major fire has ripped through the former Blundell Arms Pub on Upper Aughton Road destroying the building.

Fire crews are still on site tackling the blaze which broke out early this morning, Saturday 1 June 2019.

The fire, which is believed to have been started deliberately, is thought to have dashed the hopes of local residents who have tirelessly campaigned to turn the ex pub into a community hub years after it shut down.

nobody is thought to have been injured in the fire and emergency services are asking people to keep their windows and doors shut to stop smoke getting in.
