Bispham road closed after targeted shooting

Detectives are investigating following an incident in Bispham Road in Southport in the early hours of this morning.

Officers were called at just after midnight following reports damage had been caused to the upstairs front window and a downstairs window of a property. The damage was consistent with a firearms discharge.

The occupants were in the property at the time but nobody was injured.

An investigation is underway and house-to-house enquiries are ongoing in the local area.

At this stage the motive is being investigated but it is believed to be a targeted attack.

Detective Chief Inspector Gayle Rooney said: “I would appeal to anyone who was in the vicinity of Bispham Road around midnight last night who saw anybody or anything suspicious to contact us.

“I am particularly keen to speak to anyone who may have seen a silver motor vehicle, possibly a Volvo, driving around the area prior to the incident.

“I want to reassure our communities that we take incidents of this nature very seriously and the use of firearms will not be tolerated on the streets of Merseyside. Thankfully nobody was hurt during this incident but it is important that anybody who may have information comes forward so we can find the person or people responsible.”
