Police have launched an investigation after it was alleged two women were sexually assaulted at a hotel in Southport town centre.
The alleged incident happened on Saturday evening at the Scarisbrick Hotel.
Detectives say they have since arrested a man from Birkdale on suspicion of two counts of sexual assault of a female, assault and possession of a class A drug.
A Merseyside Police spokesperson said: “A man has been arrested on suspicion of a suspected sexual assault in Southport. At around 7.45pm on Saturday 18 March, it was reported that two women had been sexually assaulted by a man and one was struck in the face at the Scarisbrick Hotel on Lord Street.
“Officers attended and a 55-year-old man from Birkdale was arrested on suspicion two counts of sexual assault of a female, assault and possession of a Class A drug, cocaine. He has been bailed pending further enquiries.
