Birkdale broadband bust after car smash

Birkdale residents woke up this morning to find their WiFi had gone down after a one in a million car accident.

Overnight a driver lost control of their vehicle at considerable speed on Southbank Road and collided with a number of parked cars.

The vehicle, which fled the scene, also struck and caused serious damage to a BT phone and fibre hub on the street, knocking out internet connections to hundreds of homes.

The outage has affected all three main providers including SKY, Virgin and BT leaving hundreds of families and home workers without internet.

The damage is so significant it’s thought that it could take a number of days to fix
