Judges at Sefton Magistrates court has heard how a bike thief was caught after one of his victim’s friends followed him on a train and informed police.
Declan Pattie, 19, of Vincent Road, Litherland, pleaded guilty to theft of an £800 pedal cycle from outside of a gym in Formby on April 10 and to stealing a £500 Land Rover cycle from a male in Hightown later on the same day.
Andrew Page, prosecuting, said that the victim in the second case called a friend about what had happened.
The friend suspected that the thief would be at Formby Railway Station and going along to the station, immediately recognised the bike along with Pattie and another male.
Mr Page said the friend got on a Liverpool- bound train with the thief and the other male while keeping police informed. Pattie was arrested after the train arrived at Blundellsands.
He was fined £80 and ordered to pay £115 in costs and victim surcharge. Both stolen bikes were recovered.
