Biggest online poker wins

Poker has been a mainstay in global culture for some time now, but with the internet coming of age, many more people are finding their way into the game. Meaning more money gets waged, and players earn more money. Here are some of the biggest known winnings to date.

  1. Patrik Antonius – In 2009, during a match between Patrik and Viktor Blom, they played for a pot of 1.375 million dollars, with Patrik coming out victorious. During the match, the two players would consistently raise the pot incrementally until they both decided to start betting higher sums of money, bringing the winning total to a high number.
  2. Viktor Blom – Not surprisingly, the highest winner before Patrik was Viktor, potentially how he found himself playing for money of this sum beforehand. This earning occurred in the same year and tournament as the previous one, but Viktor was playing against Phil Ivey this time. Using a king’s hand, he walked away with a pot of $1,127,955.
  3. Ali Imsirovic – Moving to a more recent tournament, Ali won a pot of $974,631 in 2020. Already considered a phenom, Ali, in many people’s eyes, was lucky as his hand was not strong. Still, thanks to a good strategy and an understanding of the bluff his opponent Tan Xuan attempted, he was able to walk away with the win.
  4. Patrik Antonius – The adventures of Patrick Antonius and Viktor Blom were not over yet. In the same tournament but on a different day, they had another encounter in which Patrik came out the winner again with an earning of $878,959. At the moment, it was the biggest pot yet until the other two encounters we mentioned transpired. Looking even for most of the match, Patrik pulled out an eight at the right time to overcome Viktor’s hand bringing home the pot for him.

The incredible thing about poker is the twists and turns in the sport. Make no mistake, some of the winners in this article could have easily been losers if certain things went against them. However, they still walked away with the pot, which is today considered some of the biggest pots. But again, what makes this game so interesting is that these records could easily get eclipsed, so keep your eyes open for the next tournament because you might be about to witness history.
