Bargain basement store rises from Poundworld ashes

2nd October 2018

A bargain basement store closed after falling into administration has risen from the ashes.

OTS News can confirm staff and stock have been moved back into the ex Poundworld store in Chapel Street just weeks after the chain fell into administration and staff lost their jobs.

The store is thought to be one of the new stores opened by ex Poundland founder Chris Edwards who is using the ex shop sites as a launchpad for his new business.

Edwards said he planned to launch Onebelow, a chain returning to the “pound shop” concept of his former Poundworld empire, which officially entered administration in June leaving over 5000 former staff facing redundancy.

Despite the fixed price point format being put under strain thanks to growing import prices after Brexit, Edwards is confident there is still a demand for budget stores and plans to open over 100 Onebelow stores by the end of 2019.
