29th July 2024

It’s been reported that two people, believed to be young children, have sadly died following a tragic and harrowing attack at a property in Southport this morning.

Police have now confirmed that a 17-year-old male from Banks, who was arrested in connection to the stabbing remains in police custody and will be questioned about the incident.

His identity will remain confidential due to his age.

A number of young children and adults have been taken to various hospitals around the North West for specialist medical treatment following the incident.

At this early stage, enquiries are ongoing to establish the motive for this tragic incident and we would urge people not to speculate while the investigation is ongoing.

Police have raided a property in neighbouring Banks which is understood to be linked to the incident.

Police can also confirm that the incident is not currently being treated as terror-related and we are not looking for anyone else in connection with the incident.

Any updates will be provided to the public when available.
