Southport BID are excited to announce their plans for a that the Christmas ice rink will be back for 2017 and will be bigger and even better than last time!
The ice rink – is returning to town this Christmas thanks to the Business Improvement District team. This year’s ice rink will be around two thirds bigger than the one previously
Hugh Evans says: “Work will begin to erect the ice rink on Town Hall Gardens once we’ve launched the Christmas festivities in style at our big switch-on event. The rink will open as soon as possible after the switch-on and run through until New Year.
“Town Hall Gardens is a wonderful open space that lends itself to large scale attractions of this type. Once open the rink will complement the Christmas Markets that Sefton Council are organising for Chapel Street. Both attractions will provide Southport with a Christmas campaign to be proud off.
Southport BID are also planning the Christmas lights switch on for 2017 too. After a brilliant 2016 concert featuring the sensational Overtones, 2017 is set to be fantastic. The concert, following much consultation with local businesses and the public is being moved to a Sunday and this year will be Sunday the 19th of November. Lots of great entertainment for the whole afternoon is being planned as we speak!
Southport BID’s Hugh Evans believes the move will help boost trade for businesses on a quieter day “A clear message came through to us that Saturday was a busy day for shops and restaurants and that the move to Sunday would help create a bigger boost in trade”
This year will also see a fresh new Christmas light design, again funded by the BID and a co-ordinated and more exciting digital campaign with the STBN to really promote Southport as a surprising and festive family destination during December!
