Legendary R.E.M. frontman Michael Stipe has called the band “awesome”
R.E.M. disbanded in 2011 but Stipe continue to step up to honour the songs and style of R.E.M having been named after the band’s legendary lead singer Michael Stipe.
The tribute act will perform at the Fox and goose, cable street, Southport friday December 9th , and any music fan will find themselves enthralled by the band’s frontman Richard Southern.
Southern says: “The music of R.E.M. left such an impression on myself that it will always be a part of my life. It lives deep down inside and has brought much happiness. For as long as I am able, I will keep singing those songs and performing as ‘Michael Stipe’.”
Stipe will take possession of the venue – which is known in the region for both great sound and its support of live music – and interact with their audience, bringing the brilliance of R.E.M. to life.
Upon hearing the tribute act, Michael Stipe himself admitted to being impressed, labelling the band as “awesome”.
BBC Radio also say: “If you hear Stipe are playing a gig near you then drop everything and go and see them.”
