ASDA apologise after refusing to sell customer discounted items in advert blunder

20th January 2017

The antiquesman John Nolan said he was delighted after ASDA apologised to him following a store cock up

The famous Southport man was baffled when he was refused the sale of two homeware items at the Central 12 store last week – because they would not honour a discounted price advertised!

John had visited the store hoping to buy a slow cooker reduced from £14 to £10 and a similarly branded rice cooker from £16 to £10.

However when he got to the till with his goods, he was charged £30 instead of £20.

Staff refused to sell him the items at the magazine price and, despite returning later on with the evidence, a store manager insisted his staff members were right to refuse the sale.

Even ringing the head office led to a dead end, leaving John  frustrated and angry.

He told the OTSNews.co.uk “I got this leaflet through my door and, being a bit bored, flicked through it and saw these two items for sale.

“I thought I would like them and despite it being about 11pm at night, I drove down to ASDA on Central Twelve and picked them both off the shelf.

“When I got to the till it was totalled up and came to full price but when i complained they told me I couldn’t have it for what had been advertised.

“So I went home, grabbed the magazine and came back. After the cashier looked at the magazine she agreed with my concerns but then a manager came down and refused to make the sale.

“I was baffled. I know it’s not much but they should honour it as it is their magazine and people expect to buy it at the price advertised!

“Even the head office wouldn’t help at first!”

Following an investigation by the local media, ASDA eventually admitted they had made a mistake and even delivered the goods completely  free of charge to John’s Antiques store on King Street.
