Appeal for witnesses following robbery at jewellers in Southport

Merseyside Police is appealing for witnesses following a robbery at a jewellers in Southport.

Officers were contacted at 5.30pm tonight, Saturday 17thFebruary, following reports that a robbery had occurred at Prestige Diamonds at Lord Street.

It is believed that two males with baseball bats entered the shop and stole a quantity of jewellery while a third man waited in a grey Mercedes van outside.

The males then made off in the van along Lord Street in the direction of the fire station. The van was later found burnt out in Booth Street. It is believed the males left the area in a purple Audi with black alloy wheels.

Nobody was injured during the incident but staff were left shaken by their ordeal.

An investigation is underway and CCTV and forensic enquiries are ongoing. A search of the local area is also underway.

One of the males is described as approximately 30 years of age, 5ft 10in tall, of large build and wearing a grey tracksuit and black face covering.

Detective Inspector Steve Christian said: “I would appeal to anyone who was in the vicinity of Lord Street this evening who saw anything suspicious or saw the males entering or leaving the shop to contact us a matter of urgency. I would also appeal to anyone who has CCTV or dash cam footage of the incident to get in touch.

“Nobody was injured but staff have been left shaken and I want to reassure the local community that we are committed to finding the people responsible and bringing them to justice.”
