We are issuing images (see below) of jewellery stolen in a burglary at a house in Ainsdale on 15 December.
The burglary was reported at 8.50pm when it was discovered the house on Station Road, Ainsdale, had been targeted sometime after 6.45pm that evening.
The offenders had smashed a side door using a spade to gain entry to the house. They then conducted an untidy search in rooms upstairs, taking a number of distinctive items of jewellery (pictured).
Detectives want to speak to anyone who has seen or been offered the items for sale since the incident.
Detective Sergeant Alan Wood said: “The jewellery is of significant monetary and sentimental value, so this has been a particularly distressing incident for the elderly female owner.
“If you recognise any of the items or saw anyone acting suspiciously in the Station Road area on the evening of Saturday 15 December, please contact police.
“I would ask the offenders to do the right thing and return the stolen items to the owner in any way possible.
“The jewellery taken includes bracelets, rings and necklaces and will be distinctive to anyone who may have been offered them. I would urge anyone with information on either the items or those involved in this offence to contact police.”
