A thief robbed a woman’s handbag in Southport town centre – before making off on a bike.
This incident took place at approximately 5:40pm on Victoria Street, Monday, December 2018.
A spokesperson for Merseyside police said: “A call was received to say that a man on a bike stole a woman’s bag along Victoria Street – before riding off in the direction of the Promenade”
“The man on the bike made off in the direction of the promenade and enquiries are ongoing.”
This is the latest “handbag theft” that have taken place in the town centre.
Just last week, four similar thefts were reported over the period of two days.

WARNING: Multiple handbag snatches in Southport town centre
A number of handbag snatches in Southport town centre have been reported over the last two days.
Three in the Derby Road/London Street area and one today (Wed 13th) on Stanley Street.
A spokesperson for Merseyside police said:
“Be aware of your surroundings and keep bags across your body to reduce risk.”
A 45 year old man from Southport was later arrested by officers in connection with a ‘pick pocket’ theft that occurred in the town centre.
