An allotment owner who was left heartbroken by the vandalism and near destruction of her beloved allotment patch says she is overwhelmed by the outpouring of support she has received.
Since OTS New first carried the sad tale of Baiba Leimane and her allotment patch which had been destroyed by vandals in Birkdale, hundreds of residents and businesses have turned out in force to help bring back Baiba’s beloved ‘patch of heaven’
Baiba said “Thanks to all the people who helped me. Thanks to those who gave the materials, (wood), thank Ian Singleton (our Birkdale Irrigation Allotment Site chairman) who helps everyone these days a lot, Thank you to my work colleagues, who donated money, not only to me, but I would also like to share it with others in our site.
It touched my heart a lot. I believe in the good people again.
I found out how many loved ones I had with me.
I have never received so much goodness. So many good words.
Many wrote to me personally and expressed a desire to donate to me, but I would like to help everyone on the Birkdale Irrigation Allotment Site.
We are a community Birkdale Irrigation Allotment Site with 226 plot holders, and their families etc. 19 nationalities, some with disabilities. 38 people >75 years old.
We are quiet and very friendly. We like nature and silence around us. Watch birds, drink morning tea/coffee in our gardens. See how our plants grow, vegetables grow. We’re very tough and hard working.
Did you know that many of us are donating vegetables to local Foodbanks but Every year someone comes and breaks our harmony.
I want to be protected and my garden friends would like that too.
I am grateful to all of you now.”
